It’s been a while since my last post on why I prefer PostHog as my weapon of choice for Product Analytics.
One reason is because they are offering Session Recording as part of their free plan. Which is one of my favorite feature of PostHog.
Now, let me share with you my top 3 quick wins from using Session Recordings:
- See user behavior. So in a nutshell, what session recording does is to record the user’s session in a video format. This way we can be able to see user’s activity and movement on the product. Last time in Poplar Homes, we were able to see a user got stuck on the onboarding process. And it was painful to see according to our CTO. Hence, the incident was escalated and a quick fix was deployed. On a positive note, we can also see good user behavior like purchasing a product and use it as a use case to influence other buyers.
- Improve user experience. When we see customer behavior that we didn’t expect they would do, we can immediately review with the UX Team on how to better design the UI for a better user experience next time. This could be lessening some steps in the onboarding process or even lessening the errors encountered by the user. This way we are guiding them on how to best use the product.
- Logging details. Here’s a cool feature from PostHog’s Session Recording. They are able to capture even the console logs as they capture the recording. This is very helpful specially when the user encounter an error using the product. We can immediately start the investigation process just by looking at the console log.
So there you have it! Product Analytics doesn’t have to be so complicated.
